After Pakistan-Mirwaiz talks, Hurriyat enjoys a field day in Kashmir | 'No FIR but Police protection to anti-India event' | | Early Times Report Srinagar, Jan 31: Even as the government was expected to tighten noose around the separatists after anti-India talks between Pakistani minister and Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, the Hurriyat conference enjoys a field day in Kashmir. A day after Pakistan's foreign minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi called Hurriyat Conference chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq on phone to discuss an anti-India agenda, instead of filing a police case, the Jammu and Kashmir Police provided protection to the Hurriyat M leaders to hold anti-India program in Srinagar. On the 30th January, the Hurriyat M was allowed to hold a mega convention followed by a press conference at their headquarters at Raj Bagh while a huge contingency of police was seen guarding the venue. At the said event Mirwaiz not only spoke fire against New Delhi but strongly glorified having held talks with Pakistan. "I wonder why a phone call to me from the Pakistan foreign minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi has irritated and unnerved New Delhi," the Mirwaiz said. Addressing the press conference, Mirwaiz said, "Pakistan is a party to the Kashmir dispute. What are they (New Delhi) objecting to? Are they objecting to why Pakistan is highlighting daily misery of Kashmiris whose every right including the right to live is subject to the whim of an ordinary soldier on the ground who can shoot at will under legal cover and get away with it, or worse, be rewarded for it." A senior official said it was unfortunate that the government was giving a free hand to the anti-national elements when Pakistan sponsored terror and ceasefire violations are finding no end. "What will be the impact on the morale of police and paramilitary who are made to provide protection to such anti-national events," said a senior official on the condition of anonymity. A day before this anti-India event held by Mirwaiz in Rajbagh Srinagar, Pakistan's foreign minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi called him to discuss "Islamabad's efforts to highlight the Kashmir issue." While the BJP government in New Delhi has been silent on the Hurriyat Pakistan talks, the Pakistani government formally gave details of the talks immediately after the phone call was made. |
