Mehbooba Mufti's dharna leaves commuters stranded | | | Saahil Suhail Early Times Report Anantnag, Mar 6: Former Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti's protest dharna, against ban on Jammat-e-Islami, caused a massive traffic jam on Khanabal-Pahalgam road on Wednesday in south Kashmir's Anantnag district. Mehbooba Mufti along with her top party leaders arrived in the town to address a scheduled convention of party of workers who had come from different areas of South Kashmir and mostly from Anantnag and Kulgam. They said that former Chief Minister addressed the workers inside Dak Banglow Khanabal and in the beginning told her workers how the security forces were troubling civilian vehicles on Srinagar-Jammu National Highway. "Foundation of PDP was laid to fight the situation that has reemerged now," she said. After justifying the alliance with BJP and condemning the ban on Jamaat-e-Islami, Mehbooba asked her party workers to move (Peacefully) towards DC Office Anantnag. Outside Dak Banglow Khanabal, a large contingent of police had already arrived to stop Mehbooba Mufti from marching towards the DC Office. Videos showed Mehbooba Mufti sitting on the road for few minutes and security forces stopping PDP workers from moving towards DC Office Anantnag. The protest however caused a massive traffic jam in Anantnag. Movement of traffic on most of the roads remained halted for more than two hours and throughout the day, commuters suffered due to frequent traffic jams. Even ambulances and vehicles carrying the patients got stuck in the jam and cops were found making desperate moves to clear the traffic jam. People who spokes to Early Times expressed strong resentment against the 'road block politics' and said that they suffered immensely due to traffic jams. They requested politicians of the state to abstain from 'road block politics' and it troubles commuters. |
