JAMMU, Mar 17: The Amar Cricket Club (ACC), Jourian has lifted the New Year Cricket Cup-2019 by defeating Singh Cricket Club (SCC), Akhnoor with a narrow margin of one run in a thrilling final which was played at Akhnoor today.
After winning the toss, the ACC Jourian piled up 168 runs for the loss of six wickets in 20 overs, while chasing the opponents SCC, Akhnoor were able to muster 167 runs in 20 overs after losing seven wickets thereby losing the match by one run. Former Minister and Congress leader Sham Lal Sharm was chief guest on the occasion and Zorawar Singh Chairman Team Jammu was the guest of honour. Speaking on the occasion, Sham said that youth of the state despite having lot of interest in sports and allied activities and valour and zest for doing better, hardly get much opportunity to showcase their talent and skill, because people around them are least bothered to organize quality tournaments to provide them platform to hone their skill. Highlighting the importance of sports in life, Sham said that sports besides help in enhancing personality and developing leadership quality, it also inculcates sense of responsibility, quick decision, team spirit and sense of competition to deal with success and failure with positive spirit |
