Farooq Abdullah greeted with ‘Modi, Modi’ and ‘Har Har Mahadev’ chants outside Srinagar temple | | | Srinagar: National Conference president Farooq Abdullah, who had visited the Zeestha Devi temple at Zeethyar in Srinagar two days ago, was greeted with ‘Modi Zindabad’, ‘Modi, Modi’ and ‘Har Har Mahadev’ slogans.
The Zeestha Devi temple is a very prominent place of worship among Kashmiri Pandits.
Abdullah had reportedly come to the temple to meet the Kashmiri Pandits, who did not hold back their anger for not receiving any help from him in resolving the issues faced by them. As Abdullah arrived at the temple, people surrounded him and started chanting pro-Modi slogans.
Thousands of Kashmiri Pandit families were forced to leave their homes in the Kashmir Valley in the 1990s due to militancy. Since then, the community has failed to find its way back to the place it belonged to.
On Wednesday, the former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister met a delegation of Kashmiri Pandits at his residence.
Describing the Kashmiri Pandit community as an “essential element of the cultural milieu” of the Kashmir Valley, Abdullah said: “The need of the hour is to defeat vested interests that are hell-bent to create a wedge between the two communities.”
“Whole of Kashmir belongs as much to Pandits as it does to Muslims. We have been trying our best to bring back the community to the Valley. Many effective employment schemes were doled out during the Omar Abdullah-led government to help the community to settle back in Kashmir,” |
