JAMMU, Aug 4: Editor Early Times, Munish Gupta, on Sunday asked people to stand on their own feet and show the politicians, who ignored them during their stint in power, their right place.
Carrying forward his mass contact programme in different areas on 71st consecutive day today, Munish said, "As the elections are drawing closer the politicians who had turned invisible during the past five years have reappeared on the scene and are trying to tell the people that they only can represent the masses."
"It's unfortunate that most politicians believe that their constituencies are their fiefdoms and the people are their subjects," said Munish, who would be contesting the forthcoming Assembly elections from Gandhi Nagar constituency as an independent candidate.
He said, "The upcoming polls are the golden opportunity for the people to hold politicians accountable 'Time has come to hold them accountable'
Munish said that his mass contact programme has exposed the politicians to the hilt. "Most areas in Jammu are without basic amenities. Drains are choked, roads are in dilapidated condition, there are no garbage dumping sites," he added.
"It's unfortunate that during the past 70-years politicians have not been able to do much for the people. Residents of most of the areas in Jammu are up in arms against the politicians, who have represented them in the past," said Munish.
He urged people to come forward and give new people a chance to represent them. "I am thankful to the people for giving an overwhelming response to my mass contact programme. I hope people will vote for me so that we can together lay the foundation of new Jammu and usher a new era of development in the region." |
