ET reporter finds no staff at PHC Kellar Chatriyar during night | BMO says his people busy in COVID care, Chief Medical Officer shocked | | Ankit Kessar Early Times Report
Rajouri, Sept 12: The dismal functioning of the Health Department Rajouri has left the residents of Kellar Chatriyar in block Manjakote in lurch. Despite Primary Health Centre (PHC) in the block being designated as 24x7 facility, staff members remain absent during night and leave the people to fend for themselves. Sequence of Events These facts came to fore after locals approached Early Times reporter and informed him that although the PHC has been designated as 24X7 but during night hours, the staff remains absent most of the time. After listening to the woes of locals the ET reporter reached the PHC Kellar Chatriyar at 9:30 pm on September 10, and found no staff member in the health centre. He waited till 10:30 pm for someone to come but no one turned up. After waiting for hours, the ET reporter made a call to the Block Medical Office (BMO) Manjakote and informed him about the situation but instead of taking immediate action the BMO started giving excuses that the staff might be busy in COVID care. Later, the reporter contacted the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Rajouri and informed him about the matter. The CMO was shocked to hear and said that he would immediately contact the concerned BMO and assured him he would look into the the matter. After some time the two staff members, ambulance driver and a Nursing Orderly (NO), reached the health centre. When they were asked by the reporter about their absence, they both started misbehaving with him. After consistent questioning, the Nursing Orderly informed that they had to shift an accident patient Nisar to the District Hospital in his personal vehicle but when ET confirmed it from the hospital register, there was no mention of such patient, which exposed the false claims. Not only this, even the driver also tried to divert the attention by telling blatant lies. We face difficulties, say locals The local said that in case of emergency, they face huge difficulties as no one remains present at the Health Centre during the night. “There are no life saving drugs available in the Health Centre. In fact there are hardly any medicines at the Health Centre. On many occasions we have to go to Rajouri to get injections and medcines for the patients,” they added. Had to wait for half an hour, says CMO When CMO Rajouri was contacted again, he admitted that he had also visited the health centre and he didn’t find any staff members present there. “I had to wait for half an hour,” he said. Deputy Commissioner Rajouri Nazir Ahmed Sheikh said that he would order an inquiry.
