JAMMU, Sept 16: It seems that Jammu and Kashmir School Education Department is in the sleeping mode as a score of private schools are charging a huge amount of admission fee from parents for the new sessions making parents suffer.
The admission process started in most of the private schools from the first week of September.
A score of parents from Srinagar who talked to Early Times alleged that private schools have been charging huge amount of admission fee from them for their wards new session, while the education department is doing nothing about this.
“I had to get my daughter admitted to one of the private schools in Srinagar. Ironically, after the registration we were asked to submit a huge amount of admission fee, whereas in the same school I submitted a different admission amount for my son”, said Shakeel Shah from Srinagar.
He added, “There is no protocol or no management which can decide a particular amount of admission fee from parents. These private schools have been looting on the name of admission fee”.
“I visited three different private schools for the admission of my children in LKG and I was shocked to see the amount of admission and capitation fee from parents. They had no fear”, Masrat Shabir.
She added that looking at the kind of atmosphere of how a middle class family who has already been suffering due to Covid-19 affords education for their children. Are not the education departments well aware of the situation?
“Where is the Right To Education Act, which the government promised that it will change the fate of the education sector in Jammu and Kashmir. Who will monitor the admission fee procedure from these private schools”, said another parent.
It is pertinent to mention here that that government had earlier constituted a fee fixation committee, however, the department has been headless making the situation more volatile. Meanwhile, an official said that they will look into the matter.
