REASI, Sept 18: Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Reasi under the administrative control of Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology-Jammu (SKUAST-J) in collaboration with IFFCO celebrated Rashtryia Poshan Maah(National Nutrition Month)-2020 here today at Chaiter village in Pouni block of Reasi district of J&K which was enthusiastically attended by a number of Angadwadi Workers and women farmers of the area. All the SOPs for COVID-19 pandemic were followed while conducting the programme. The programme was inaugurated by the Chief Guest of the programme, Sh.Adarash Gupta, DDM, NABARD, Reasi. He spoke on women and children health and stressed on the balanced diet. He appreciated the KVK, Reasi for organizing such a useful programme in the rural areas. Dr. Banarsi Lal, Incharge, Sr. Scientist & Head of KVK, Reasi welcomed the participants. He briefed the significance of the event and said that every year nutritional month is celebrated in September month throughout the country. He also gave a detail view on balanced diet and emphasized on the intake of fresh organic fruits, vegetables, cereals, pulses and milk for a good health. Dr Suja Nabi Qureshi, Scientist guided women on the balance diet and said that balance diet includes the vitamins such as Vitamins D, B2, B6, B12 and minerals such iron, folic acid, iodine and calcium. He further said that milk is an important source of calcium and emphasized on the intake of leafy vegetables, fruits and mushroom. Dr Lalit Upadhaya, scientist said that nutritious food should consists of grains, pulses, vegetables, fruits, milk, meat, eggs, nuts etc. Dr Arvinder Kumar said that malnourished children have low Intelligence Quotient (IQ) and impaired cognitive ability by which their school performance is affected.
