Huge cache of narcotics worth crores recovered in Baramulla, four arrested

BARAMULLA, Sep 18: In a major anti- drug drive, four suspected persons were arrested after police seized a huge cache of narcotics worth about six crore rupees in Baramulla town today.
District police Baramulla while continuing its war against the drug mafia, arrested four suspected persons at old town Baramulla and on their disclosure, six packets of narcotic drugs (cocaine like substance) weighing about 6 kgs were recovered from their possession.
The consignment seized by the police is worth an estimated cost of Rs 6 crore in the international market, said sources.
The police later identified the four arrested persons as, Bilal Mir S/o Ghulam Mohammad Mir R/o Gulnar Park, Rafiq Sofi @ Kanjwal S/o Mohammad Shaban R/o Syed Karim, Tariq Buhroo S/o Abdul Rashid R/o Azad Gunj all are from Baramulla district and Shabir Ahmad Mir S/o Habibullah Mir R/o Ahan Ganderbal.
Addressing a press conference, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Baramulla Abdul Qayoom said that this is the biggest recovery of this year while dealing with the menace of drug peddling.
In this regard, case FIR no: 160/2020 u/s 8/21-29 NDPS Act stands registered in Police station Baramulla and investigations taken up. A senior police official said that the consistent actions against drug peddlers should reassure the community members that they are making efforts to keep our society free from the scourge of drug menace.
Drug abuse spoils a number of human lives and also destroys the golden periods of life, and the people that are involved in drug peddling could not understand its negative consequences.
It is also learnt that the J&K Police have taken an initiative by conducting awareness programs across the Kashmir province and these awareness programs lead the J&K Police to establish drug de addiction centers at Police Control Room Srinagar and other centers across the Kashmir valley.
