JAMMU, Dec 31: 2011, like 2010, was not a good year for Chief Minister Omar Abdullah. During these 12 months, he courted controversy after controversy. His statements and actions demonstrated his unwillingness to recognize the fact that he was not engaged in one party rule. His political conduct angered the Congress leadership in the state in general and JKPCC president Saif-ud-Din in particular. What happened in the wake of the Chief Minister's October 21 Srinagar statement on AFSPA is too well-known. Suffice it to say that the Chief Minister's statement provoked the JKPCC to the extent that the latter publicly disapproved of it and candidly told the former that he violated coalition dharma by making a statement on a very sensitive issue without taking the Congress into confidence.

SRINAGAR, Dec 31: Cabinet meeting will be held on Monday 2 January, 2012 under the chairmanship of Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah winter capital of the state, Jammu sources told KNS.
The meeting will decide the extension of Director CA &PD, Abdul Wahid Tak and Managing Director of Power Development Corporation, Basharat Ahmad Dhar as they have retired today. Sources told KNS that power crises and other things will be discussed in the meeting.
This will be the first cabinet meeting of year 2012. The total number of cabinet meetings held in 2011 were 26, in which 224 important decision were taken.

JAMMU, Dec 31: Police reflected the "good work" done by them in a press note issued here today on the last day of 2001, saying out of 37 incidents of chain snatching in the city, they had solved "only" 18.
Despite the heavy presence of cops, the writ of chain snatchers ran large on city roads, with women preferring to stay indoors during night hours, or avoiding secluded lanes and bylanes even during the day time.
But in the handout, police proudly announced that they had solved 18 out of 37 chain snatching incidents.
The incidents of thefts and cops browbeating general public also witnessed a jump in 2011.
