Demitting his office in the middle of this Sunday, the outgoing chief of Indian Army made quite positive observations about the situation in Jammu and Kashmir as he said militancy was fast on the decline.
Speaking to the reporters after inspection of guard of honour, Gen JJ Singh said that normalcy is fast returning to Jammu and Kashmir the people have not identified with the militants and look forward to peace. Gen Singh's observations are likely to further encourage the political circles campaigning for demilitarization.
Informing that the casualty rates were also down to one-third of those three to four years ago, Gen JJ Singh noted with confidence that the borders in Kashmir 'are much more secure' today, as he attributed this to the army's 'iron fist and velvet glove' policy.

In what may come as a shiver for some Forest Officers, the Financial Commissioner Home, BR Kundal is all set to submit his inquiry report to the Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad.
Kundal was appointed inquiry officer by the Chief Minister after divesting the Peoples Democratic Party leader Qazi Mohammad Afzal of his Forest portfolio on September 2. The inquiry committee was asked to finalise the report within 23 days but they are reported to have done the job even before that.

With the killing of two holed up militants of Hizb-ul Mujahideen militants hiding inside a village mosque in Pulwama district, the security forces ended the siege that began yesterday.
'The operation has ended. The mosque was partially damaged. The two holed up militants, belonging to Hizb-ul Mujahideen, were gunned down by the security forces this afternoon,' a Police spokesman said.
