| Who is afraid of the ban? | | Private practice of SKIMS doctors | | | early times report
Srinagar, Nov 20: While the Legislative Assembly Committee, constituted to investigate the increased deaths in Valley's lone super-specialty hospital Sher-e-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences, Soura (SKIMS) has suggested imposition of ban on the private practice of the medicos associated with the institute, it not only continues unabated but is flourishing as well.
Sources told Early Times that while some of the senior medicos are making fortunes by indulging in private practice and ignoring the patient care, Director SKIMS, Dr Showkat Zargar is as helpless before them as anybody else.
"The Director does not want to annoy the doctors involved in private practice. He (Dr Zargar) himself had a flourishing practice before he took over as Director last year. He was warned by the SKIMS authorities in 2010 against continuing it", they said.
Official documents in possession of Early Times reveal that from January 2011 to July 31 this year, 3468 deaths occurred at the hospital. The high death rate in the SKIMS speaks volumes about the indifference of senior me...

| | | | ‘Youth persecuted for green clothes, Kamaal is free’ | | Why this dichotomy? | | | Early Times Report

The Pakistani flag, it may be mentioned, has a similar combination of colours. The Jammu & Kashmir Police Kay Janbaaz Sipahi (brave soldiers of JK Police) took the youth into custody. He was beaten as well. The incident evoked sharp reaction from People's Democratic Party (PDP) president, Mehbooba Mufti. The youth was let off after some time but a message was conveyed. | | | | Congress contesting one LC seat from Kashmir | | On backfoot, NC high command 'surrendering' political space to ally | | | early times report
Jammu, Nov 20: In the mutual agreement 'trick' played by the ruling coalition partners NC and Congress for the ensuing LC polls, it is the NC which is being seen at the receiving end and a big loser in the long term innings of politics it has been playing in Kashmir Valley. By allowing Congress to contest one seat from Kashmir Valley in this agreement, NC has virtually surrendered its own political space to the Congress , which hitherto it (NC) would not agree to leave at any cost, the space being the valued and crucial in the game of Kashmir politics in which only regional and Valley based parties are dominant players.

One of the issues that he raised during his interaction with press persons concerned the scourge of corruption. They are confronted with a choice between exercising their franchise and boycotting the Legislative Council elections, scheduled to be held on December 3. They are finding it difficult to decide which way to go. The political parties and candidates which have been fielded by them are after them and seeking their vote and support. There are some credible inputs which suggest that the "parties like the NC and the Congress are likely to use all available means to bring panchs and sarpanchs on board" and that "money and muscle power will also be used to win all the four seats for which election will be held next ...
