The Congress high command appears in a fix, unable to take on the main political foe, Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) within and outside Parliament. A piquant problem has been created for the Congress leadership following the startling revelation about Moni Kumar Subha, Congress MP from Tezpur, being a Nepali citizen.
Subha has fooled authorites in India for 16 years and managed to set up a business empire and hold public office in this country. Well-known television channel, CNN-IBN, has just claimed to be in the possession of vital documents showing that Subha is a Napalese citizen and that he has lied about his age, place of birth and education.

An event of much significance: India's first base in Central Asia is ready to begin operations soon. The base is at Ayni in Tajikistan. Clearly, India's power projection into the region is poised for a leap forward.
While refurbishment of the Ayni base is reported to have been completed, India's Chiefs of Staff Committee has given its go-ahead. At present, the Ministry of Defence (MoD) is waitng for the green signal from the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) to begin operations from the Ayni base, which is about 10 km northeast of the Tajik capital Dushanbe.
