Day one of strike: Prices of vegetable fruits sky rocketing

Jammu | June 25 Jammuites started feeling the pinch of skyrocketing prices of vegetables and fruits on day one of the three day strike call given by the Fruit and vegetable traders association at Narwal Fruit and Vegetable Market. Since early morning the vegetable fruit market at Narwal wore a desereted look as over 7000 fruit and vegetable merchants suspended their business activity and took out a march and blcoked trqaffic on the Tawi bridge to register their protest. Later they moved across the city and closed down fruit shops and vegetable shops selling their left over stock at higher prices. Residents across the Jammu city were seen moving from one shop to another in search of fresh stock of vegeatbles but in vain.The shopkeepers and vegetbale vendors indulged in black marketing and sold vegetables at exorbitant prices much to the discomfiture of housewives.Street vendors and rehriwallha bore the maximum brunt as they return empty handed from the narwal market in the absence of any trading activity. Jammu | June 25 Jammu Fruit Association and Jammu Fruit and Vegetable Association have hailed the decision of the Government to defer the implementation of Agriculture Produce Marketing (Regulation) Act for a period of two months. BL KAK NEW DELHI, JUNE 25: The drive in support of Taj Mahal took a new turn on Monday, wityh the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) disxasxociating itself from the ongoing media campaign andf Internet voting to pick the 'Seven New Wonders of the World'. The UNESCO made it clear that the exercise is a "complete private undertaking". A press note issued by UNESCO said that it was not involved in the campaign and there "is no linkage" between its World Heritage protection programme and the ongoing campaign. NEW DELHI | June 25 Continuing infiltration across the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir is a matter of 'concern', Defence Minister A.K. Antony said here Monday. 'The continuing infiltration is of concern to us. We are taking sufficient precautions to prevent it,' Antony told reporters on the sidelines of a defence accounts function. 'The army is alert. DODA, June 25 Two civilians were killed while 13 others including four women were wounded one of them critically, when unidentified militants lobbed a hand grenade near old Bus stand of Doda, on Monday afternoon. The two critically injured succumbed to their injuries while being shifted to Jammu Medical College this evening. Official sources said that suspected militants lobbed a hand grenade targeting civilians who had just reached to Bus-Stand from their respective villages for purchasing ration.
