CRPF to deploy women commando team for Amarnath Yatra

Agencies New Delhi, June 25 : CRPF will deploy a squad of its women commandos for rendering security duties during the upcoming Amarnath Yatra in Jammu and Kashmir. The Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) had recently unveiled its exclusive women commandos team which has been trained to undertake special operations. The team possesses skills for unarmed combat and sophisticated weapons firing. The women commandos, according to sources, will be deployed at select locations which are found to be vulnerable in the yatra route. The force has deployed a total of 60 companies, including two regular women units, for the yatra security. One company strength is about 100 personnel. The first batch of the yatra is scheduled to leave from Jammu on June 27. So far nearly three lakh people have registered for the annual yatra....

Early Times Report Kishtwar, June 25 : Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah today demanded a Rs 600-crore package from the centre for the earthquake affected Doda-Kishtwar belt of the state. "We seek Rs 600 crore package for earthquake-hit families of erstwhile Doda district. IAF chopper crashes in Uttarakhand, nine feared dead

Agencies Dehradun, June 25 : A rescue chopper of the Indian Air Force crashed in Gaurikund on Tuesday in Uttarakhand which has been ravaged by rains and massive floods. “One Mi-17 V5 chopper on a rescue mission from Gauchar to Guptkashi and Kedarnath while returning from Kedarnath crashed north of Gaurikund,” an IAF spokesperson said. A Court of Inquiry has been order to investigate the crash, the spokesperson said. However, the IAF said that its operations in the area will continue. Early Times Report Jammu, June 25 : As Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi are on a visit to Jammu and Kashmir, Pakistani troops today violated ceasefire for the fourth time this month by opening firing on Indian posts along the Line of Control (LoC) in Poonch district. "There was small arms firing on Indian posts in Durga Battalion area along LoC in Poonch brigade belt around 1515 hours today," PRO Defence, S N Acharya said.
