| WITHOUT PROFESSORS IT’S A COLLEGE WITH A DIFFERENCE | | | | Jammu,August 12
Out of sanctioned strength of 25 professors there is not a single professor on roll in the Government college of Engineering and Technology whose new campus was inaugurated by Chief Minister,Mr Ghulam Nabi Azad,here today.
According to a well printed pamphlets, circulated soon after the inauguration function was over,out of 24 sanctioned strength of Assistant professors there are only four on the roll and out of 33 posts of lecturers there are 25.
This is the tale of an engineering college with difference.
After the retirement of its principal,who too was on deputation from its parent institution National Institute of Technology,on July 31,2006 his seat stands occupied by a senior most faculty member of the rank of Assistant professor and that too on the verbal orders of Principal Secretary higher education.
At the time of his retirement Principal Prof. R.S.Sharma faced a problem because one senior most professor, a migrant from REC Srinagar, refused to take the charge without any specific Government order.

About 40 trained militants infiltrated from the other side of the border in Jammu and Kashmir and sneaked into the upper reaches of Doda-Udhampur to carry out subversive activities, police sources said.
Out of these militants, affililated to various outfits, about 15 are foreign mercenaries and most of them are Pakistani's. Besides this, the presence of some local militants in the area has also increased the worries of security forces.
Sources said as Independence day is approaching, a fear of possible militant strikes is looming large therefore, massive hunts have been launched in the area to avoid any untoward incidents, despite the tough hilly terrains.

Taking strong note of slow speed of investigations into the sex racket case, Jammu and Kashmir High Court today asked CBI to initiate action against the public functionaries named by the victims and witnesses in the case.
The CBI shall without any further loss of time concretise action including custodial interrogation against all persons found substantially involved in terms of materials on record, regardless of their position and placement, the Division Bench Comprising Justice Hakim Imtiyaz Hussain and B A Kirmani said in its order today.

BJP today demanded that India attack Pakistan and Bangladesh "to dismantle terrorist centres" in these countries.

The government of India has just received inputs from Islamabad vis-a-vis a nuclear deal going to become a reality between Pakistan and China. Islamabad will shortly be inking its landmark accord on nuclear energy co-operation with Beijing.
Pakistan will, under the landmark accord, acquire half a dozen reactors of 300 megawatts each. Negotiations between Islamabad and Beijing were in the final stages and the deal is most likely to be reached during the visit of Chinese President, Hu Jintap, to Pakistan in November this year.

ver Rs 3,366 crores have been released by the Centre to the Jammu and Kashmir government as reimbursement for its security-related expenditure (SRE). The reimbursement relates to the period from 1989-1990 to 2004-2005. Following the eruption of militancy in Jammu and Kashmir, the expenditure involved in combating militancy and terrorism was debited to the State every year. The reimbursement of the expenditure has reduced the burden on the State.
