NEW DELHI, AUG. 17:
The Congress-led coalition government at the Centre has not taken well the unwanted oppositon by Islamabad to New Delhi's proposal for re-opening of the Suchetgarh-Sialkot road. Pakistan's "no" to the Indian proposal notwithstanding, the government of India is for opening more transit points along the Line of Control.
The Prime Minister, Manmohan Singh, informed the Rajya Sabha on Thursday that the UPA (United Progressive Alliance) government is in favour of providing more transit points along the Line of Control (LoC) to facilitate greater people-to-people contact.
Replying to a supplementary question in the Rajya Sabha, Manmohan Singh said: "Our government is for expanding flow of personnel between the two sides on the Line of Control (LoC). Whenever opportunity arises, we will take up this matter with Pakistan".

A local court today granted interim bail on health grounds to a senior IAS officer arrested in connection with the sex racket case here.
Principal District and Sessions Judge M Yaqoob Mir granted interim bail till further orders to the oficer and imposed conditions which include restrictions on his leaving Srinagar city without permission.

Lok Sabha today approved a motion to set up a 15-member Joint Parliamentary Committee for suggesting a comprehensive definition of office of profit, a move seen as an attempt to address concerns expressed by President A P J Abdul Kalam before whom a bill in this regard is still pending for assent.
