| J&K CABINET GETS A LITTLE BIGGER WITH EXPANSION | | NOW 22 MINISTERS, 3 MORE TO BE INDUCTED LATER | | |
Srinagar, Aug 29, : The slim cabinet in Jammu and Kashmir got a little bigger when the Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad on Tuesday expanded his council of ministers with nine new ministers.One minister of state from Congress quota was elevated to the rank of cabinet minister.
At a ceremony held here at Raj Bhavan the first expansion of Azad's government –after he took over as the Chief Minister in November last year,Governor S K Sinha, administered oath of office and secrecy to Dilawar Mir (PDP), Gulchain Singh Charak (Cong) and Jugal Kishore Sharma (Cong) as cabinet ministers.
Among the three, Singh is the only one to be elevated to Cabinet rank after previously having been a Minister of State (MoS) in the Azad government with Independent charge. The new Ministers of State are Javed Mustafa Mir, Peer Mohammad Hussain, Manjit Singh, Mohammad Khalil Bandh (all from PDP), Ramesh Chandra Sharma, Prem Sagar Aziz and Aijaz Ahmad Khan (from Congress).

NEW DELHI: The Congress-led coalition government at the Centre--the Ministry of External Affairs, to be precise--has unnecessarily commented on the situation in Pakistan's Balochistan province following the killing of Nawab Akbar Bugti. Had India's Foreign Office done proper home work before issuing a statement, Islamabad would then have taken a different stand. NEW DELHI, AUG. 29: Intelligence Bureau (IB) is reported to have rubbished the claim of Punjab police that a 'Lady James Bond' from Kashmir is on the prowl and that she could prove to be deadlier than terror operatives trained in Pakistan. According to the Punjab police, she is a pretty and demure-looking Irafata, a Kashmiri woman in her 20s.

NEW DELHI, AUG. 29: Government of India has issued fresh instructions, calling for tighter security measures in Jammu and Kashmir. And by far the most significant signal from the Army Headquarters to the Udhampur-based Northern Command has insisted on the need and relevance of 'heightened vigilance' in view of the likelihood of major terrorist offensives in some parts of the troubled State.

| | | | LeT founder re-arrested in Pakistan | | | | Islamabad, Aug 29 Shortly after his release following a court order, Lashkar-e-Toyaba (LeT) founder Hafeez Muhammed Saeed was re-arrested for a two-month period and lodged in Lahore jail.
Saeed's lawyer Nazir Ahmed Ghazi said that his client was released for an hour yesterday following the Lahore High Court's order but was arrested again from his residence late in the evening.
"He was brought from the Shiekhpura guest house where he was earlier lodged and released in Lahore. But he was detained for a two months period once again an hour later," Ghazi said adding, "he was brought home and taken to a local jail." Ghazi said he would take up the case in the Lahore High Court again.
