| Ceasefire a positive sign, but should be extended beyond Ramdhan: Azad | | | |
SRINAGAR, SEPTEMBER 11 – Chief Minister Mr. Ghulam Nabi Azad has said that people of Jammu and Kashmir are completely fed up with cult of violence. He said that time has come to openly declare stoppage of all kinds of violence, attacks on innocents, throwing of grenades, planting of IEDs and resorting to harassment of people, by militants.
In a statement issued here today, Azad said that keeping in view the holy month of Ramadan, people will appreciate the same, and from the government side, he will be happy to respond to ceasefire, which should not limit to the holy month of Ramadan only, but can be extended beyond that period in case militants declare to shun the violence.
The Chief Minister hoped that this would not only help in progress and development of the state but provide opportunity to the people to get rid of violence and miseries for ever. | Pak rejects new design forwarded by India on Kishen ganga | | | |
Islamabad, Sept 11 Pakistan today rejected the new design presented by India on the controversial Kishen ganga power project being built in Jammu and Kashmir, saying it does not address its concerns.
Also, the World Bank-appointed neutral expert is expected to deliver next month his interim verdict on another power project Baglihar, being built in Jammu and Kashmir, over the river Chenab which is being objected to by Pakistan.
"The new design (of Kishen ganga) forwarded by India also provides for diversion of water, which was our objection. That (the objection) stays there," Pakistan Foreign Office spokesperson Tasnim Aslam told reporters here.

Srinagar, Sept 11: Soon after assuming the charge as the Minister for Finance, Planning, Law and Parliamentary Affairs, Tariq Hamid Qarra on Monday termed the "controversial" Indus Waters Treaty (IWT) of 1960 as the "biggest impediment in the economic self-reliance of the state of Jammu and Kashmir".
Mr Qarra reiterated that the government of India should compensate the losses incurred by the state because of the treaty, and that it (IWT) should be reviewed.
