NC takes JK from vote to violence: Mehbooba | ‘People should support PDP for Self Rule’ | | early times report Srinagar, Sept 20: People’s Democratic Party (PDP) President, Mehbooba Mufti today accused National Conference (NC) of changing politics of vote into politics of violence. She was addressing a convention at Budgam. Right from 1947 till date, the NC created a wedge between the people of the state and rest of the country just to stay relevant and enjoy power. The only achievement NC can count is that this party made people of Kashmir a suspect in the eyes of people all over the country.” This, according to her is the reason for harassment in other parts of the country where they go for studies, jobs or some other business. She said harassment of youth was rampant in Kashmir as well. “Two boys were arrested just for wearing green cloths on Eid,” she said. Continuing her tirade against NC she said, “The NC made a U-Turn after loosing power in 1950s and advocated secession from India for 22 years in the name of plebiscite front. The demand was surrendered in 1975 for power. The party, she said showed its real face again in 1987, when it rigged elections just to stay in power. “That was the year that NC forced youth of the state to take to guns for changing politics of vote in politics of violence,” she reminded the convention. The PDP president sought peoples’ support for peace, regional harmony, economic stability and self rule. She also sought credit for opening of traditional routes including Srinagar-Muzaffarabad road, Poonch-Rawalakote road, and making Mughal Road project a reality. Mehbooba was addressing a PDP youth convention organised by Aga Syed Yousf at Budgam today. Senior party leader and former Finance Minister Tariq Hameed Karra, senior party leader Aga Syed Mehmood, PDP leader and noted RTI activist Dr Raja Muzaffar Bhat attended the convention. “PDP has been advocating renegotiations of water resources with New Delhi, opening of all traditional routes to lift the economic siege from the state, she said. The party also advocated for better representation in state versus central ratio in administration by proposing that 90 per cent of locals should constitute quota of IAS, IPS and other civil services in J&K and there should be a symbolic representation from outside the state. Former Finance Minister, Tariq Aameed Karra, Aga Syed Mehmood, Muzaffar Raja also addressed the convention. |
