| Fearing SC, Engg Rashid to move resolution for disbanding Amarnath Board | | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, Sept 22: MLA Engineer Abdul Rashid will move resolution in the coming Assembly elections to hand over charge of Amarnath Yatra from the Shri Amarnath Shrine Board to the local Kashmiri Pandits.
The resolution is being moved with an eye of Supreme Court decision which is likely to be announced on Oct 10. The apex court had in its earlier observation in hearing of the case made it quite clear that it's not happy with the arrangements put up by both the Board and State and had said that proper pucca road should be constructed.
It's being feared by the State Government once the Supreme Court issues formal order on construction of road, it can't violate it and will be forced to do it and this could go against a power lobby which is against it.
This is clever ploy and for this reason Engineer Rashid is making this resolution and there are indications that Government may support it to preempt any order of the apex court.
However, facts are to be put in right perspective. The yatra earlier was managed by Shri Dharmath Trust, which looked not only after the arrangements of the yatra but also managed the properties of temples not only in the State but all over the India where Maharajas had built temples.
It's fact that since this department was under personal control of Maharaja, a man of repute mostly from Jammu region were its in-charge and manage the affairs and Kashmiri Pandits were not so much in picture.
But now that Board has been managing the affairs and had taken on State Government in the past, on managing the affairs, it is now viewed as confrontational agency and labeled as agency of the Centre and allegedly Hindu organizations., which totally devoid of facts.
The proposals of the Board had not been accepted by the Government in the past about improvement of the yatra which is increasing day by day.
Engineer Rashid has in the past moved controversial resolutions and is being wooed by the Government to join it, a fact acknowledged by him though in private conversations.
The Government is now using it for its personal agenda. Never in the past such resolution has been moved but now that court verdict is coming and Government is developing weak knees it is making desperate measures to stop construction of road. |
