Shall seek political consensus on West Pak refugees: Soz | Congress firms its grip on 'refugees' : Day long exercise in Jammu | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Sept 22: Giving ample indications that the Party means 'business' and would take all steps to settle the issue of refugees, the J&K Congress leadership today made it clear that they would try to evolve consensus with all other parties in granting citizenship rights to the West Pakistani Refugees. JKPCC president Prof Soz said Congress is well aware of the problems of refugees and it is keen to push the solutions and settle once for all. In what looks to be the Congress in a mood not to lose grip on the issue of refugees , the JKPCC chief along with senior leaders including few Ministers today made a marathon exercise of meeting the representatives of the refugees of various categories in Jammu in order to have more insight into their problems and hardships so that these could be reinforced into the details of the high level committee announced recently by the high command. The meeting lasted over six hours and all the Congress leaders listened to what the representatives of various categories of refugees and their delegations had to say afresh about their plight and status in the State. The meeting assumes significance in view of the fact that Congress has been actively and vigorously pursuing the issue of refugees as one of key political agendas in Jammu. Some Ministers and senior leaders of the J&K Congress recently met party high command and sought solution and final settlement of the refugees, whom the party has been promising so far along time now. While talking to media persons Prof Soz said the party is recognizing the issue of refugees particularly West Pakistani refugees as a human issue which is why it would seek support and consensus of all the political parties in the State towards settlement of their demands. "It is human issue and there should be no politics over it……..we will try to involve all the parties including NC and PDP and try to find solution to all their problems in a democratic way……", the JKPCC chief said. He, however, tried to undermine a query and evade a direct answer when one of media persons referred to resistance over the citizenship issue by the separatists in Kashmir. Prof Soz asserted that the issue of refugees of all other categories would also settled in due course of time and it is in this context that more such meetings would be held in future . He said the problems of the border migrants were also discussed threadbare by the party leaders today with their representatives from different places with an aim to find solution to them as well. The veteran politician, also an MP while replying to queries on the subject said that the decision of allowing FDI in retail trade and other related issues were taken in the larger interests of the masses and it would ensure their welfare in coming times. He said these decisions were taken by the UPA Government in keeping pace with the global scenario as a matter of economic compulsion. Terming withdrawal of support by TMC as unfortunate, Prof Soz said other allies have however realized the importance of the measures and were comfortable in continuing with present coalition. Prof Soz said he is firm that Congress would again come to power and lead the Government in 2014 polls. |
