When shall Jammu hear a 'Howzzat' from its cricket stadium?
Beyond political din over JKCA

JAMMU, Oct 3: Amidst all the politicking over the financial misappropriation in the Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association and reports of feuds, corruption and nepotism within it, the fact of the matter is that lack of transparency and mismanagement have deprived Jammu of a world class stadium that could have not only invigorated its sporting potential, but also helped in complimenting its economy to quite an extent.
Almost an year after the scam was reported, there is little progress made by the JKCA in getting the project started. Insiders however divulge that the JKCA had already tendered out the construction work to one Rhitvik Constructions, who had even started the initial spade work at the site, but after the scam came to light, the president Farooq Abdullah scratched the contract.
After the internal probe committee that was designated to unearth the scam submitted its report to the working committee, the JKCA has reportedly approached a competent court in Srinagar to allow them access to the funds. "We have been allowed by the court to pay salaries to the staff and withdraw another 40 lacs for development of existing infrastructure" disclosed Manzoor Wazir the treasurer of the JKCA. "The court has designated either Ramesh Mahajan or ML Nehru to be a signatory alongside the treasurer for any transactions in the JKCA. Asked when can the work on Jammu's proposed cricket stadium start, Wazir said, "it would be difficult for me to make any commitment, but once the funds position becomes clear, working committee shall take a final call".
Sources in the JKCA divulge that in the recent meeting of the working committee, the Jammu based members of the JKCA had emphasised the need to make concerted efforts to ensure that the work on proposed stadium starts as early as possible. Sources also divulged that the president had endorsed their demand and called upon all concerned to expedite efforts in this regard. An office bearer of the JKCA pleading anonymity said that JKCA has been marred by internal bickering and groupism wherein ambitions and egos of certain members have hurt the interest of cricket and cricketers in the state. "There are over 40 litigations pending against JKCA in different courts of the state many of them filed by the members themselves" said the office bearer. interestingly, while JKCA has been left in complete disarray after the reports of financial misappropriation blasted into a huge political controversy, its chairman, Aslam Goni has reportedly been nominated to five committees of the BCCI recently.
