The trouble started when Finance Minister Abdul Rahim Rather while winding up the discussion on adjournment motion moved by various members on Diesel and LPG price hike said that there was no option left with the state government was not in a position to share the burden of increase prices on Diesel and LPG. "If you want to continue subsidy on LPG, you have to discontinue the old-age and widow pension. If you ask we will do that" Rather told the opposition. Angered by the remarks of the minister, PDP president Mehbooba Mufti hit back saying that thousands of widows and old-aged have not been given pension for last three years or so, developmental funds are being lapsed due to non-execution of developmental works and yet. "What drama is this, you are not giving pension to the widows and old-aged for last three years" an angry Mehbooba said. "We are not satisfied with your reply and stage walk-out from the House" Mehbooba said while leaving the house along with PP legislators. Talking to media persons outside the Assembly, Mehbooba said the coalition government was totally insensitive towards the problems of the people and were busy in looting the state exchequer. "The corrupts can't mislead the house by enacting drama". She accused the government of wasting crores of rupees meant for developmental works in the state. Earlier while participating in the discussion on adjournment motion Independent MLA, Er. Rashid termed the ministers as white elephants on state exchequer. "They visit their constituencies every Friday, Saturday and Sunday on government expenses for personal interests" Rashid alleged and added that the ministers should immediately stop this practice if they are really concerned about the plea of the people. Rashid said that Lal Chowk remains flooded by government vehicles on Sundays boarding children and wives of ministers and bureaucrats. "Stop this practice as an austerity measure" Rashid told ministers. Earlier, BJP and NPP MLAs staged a protest outside the assembly entrance against the LPG cap and hike in fuel prices.
