| Capping of LPG puts consumers to hardships | | Hay days for distributors | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Oct 3: With Government removing subsidy on cooking gas and LPG companies ordering verification of LPG connections the consumers are facing acute shortage of LPG for over last one week. Though there is a brewing public resentment against the decision of new verification orders and people are up in arms against the LPG companies' decision, the government till date has failed to avert the crisis and come to the rescue of hapless consumers. The people while expressing their dismay over capping of LPG term it high handedness on part of oil companies and allege that the hapless consumers are put to hardships for delivery of a gas cylinder while the commercial establishments, bureaucrats and police officers are supplied gas at call and in bulk. The situation has worsened to such an extent that many consumers face such acute scarcity of LPG that if the present hard policy continues they will be unable to cook their meals. This will lead to serious crisis but unfortunately the Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution (CAPD) Minister has no judge of facts and he is unable to understand problems of common man. The minister has failed to issue directives to the gas distributing agencies to continue home delivery atleast for one month till the verification process is over so that hapless consumers are relieved of the problem, said Ram Kumar a resident of Channi. Lambasting the authorities of oil companies he said the consumers have been put to unnecessary harassment with the capping of LPG by government as they have been asked for re-verification of their gas connections despite the fact that earlier process of verification ended just over a month back. Supporting him Ajit Singh a consumer from Gole Gujral said the consumers are denied delivery of the gas while the agencies supply the same in black. He rued the political parties of maintaining a stoic silence on the issue while people are facing acute scarcity of gas. He said if this policy continues the consumers dependent on cooking gas will be unable to cook their meals. |
