| CMO Kishtwar discusses implementation of PC & PNDT Act with Sarpanches | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
Kishtwar, Oct 6: In order to tackle the problem of falling sex ratio in Kishtwar District, Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Kishtwar as a part of government policy of IEC ( Information, Education & communication) held a workshop with elected Sarpanches, Radiologist, Gynecologist, pediatrician of Kishtwar and discussed the implementation of Pre Conception and Pre Natal Sex selection/Determination (Prohibition and Registration) Act 2002. CMO Kishtwar Dr. Ajay Gupta while addressing the workshop presided over by Deputy Commissioner Kishtwar Saleem Mohammad Chowdhary expressed concern over falling sex ratio in Kishtwar District. Gupta informed the Sarpanches that as per latest census the sex ratio in Kishtwar District is 912 females against 1000 males. He said that the implementation of PC & PNDT Act has been declared as National mission by the government of India. He further informed that two Ultrasound clinics are registered in Kishtwar district beside one at District Hospital Kishtwar. He appealed the Sarpanches as well as NGOs and other allied agencies to help the government in curbing this social evil in its real sense. He said that government has also announced cash reward of Rs. 25000/ for those who will give any kind of information pertaining to sex determination. He urged up on all the Sarpanches to educate the people about importance of "Girl Child" in society. He hoped that all the elected representatives will spread the message of "Save girl child" in rural areas of Kishtwar District, so that the ugly design of falling sex ratio could be prevented. He said that chemists shop owners of Kishtwar District has also been advised not to sell any abortion drug in market without proper prescription. Deputy Commissioner Kishtwar in his address also stressed for taking effective measures to curb the menace of sex determination within the society. |
