| 13 centres established for paddy procurement | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Oct 9 : A total of 13 Procurement Centers have been established to facilitate the procurement of paddy at the minimum support price during Kharif Marketing Season 2012-13. This was disclosed by the Minister for Agriculture, Ghulam Hassan Mir during a meeting held by him to review the arrangements at Jammu. Minister stated that timely opening of procurement centres will ensure the farmers are not compelled to sell their produce below the minimum support price fixed for the purpose during current season. He asked the FCI representatives present in the meeting to deploy their staff immediately at the Centres established in Kathua and Samba district where the crop was already being harvested by the farmers. He enjoined upon all the participants in the meeting to spare no efforts to ensure smooth procurement of paddy Kharif Marketing Season (KMS) 2012-13. It was disclosed in the meeting that the rates fixed for KMS 2012-13 which stood at Rs 1250 for common grade paddy and Rs 1280 for A-grade paddy were likely to be quite attractive for the farmers. It was also disclosed that the requisite number of gunny bags for bagging of the procured paddy has already been requisitioned by FCI and no shortage on this account is envisaged by them. The requisite staff has also been already posted by the FCI and no effort will be spared to ensure that all paddy brought to the procurement centres by the farmers which meets the prescribed specifications will be procured by them. Earlier it was disclosed in the meeting that centres has been established at Bishnah, Arnia, R.S. Pura, Sohanjana, Gajansoo, Channu Chak, Pargwal, Khour and Jourian (Jammu District), Ramgarh, Vijaypur ( Samba District) Nagri Parole-Chanigran and Sanji Morh ( Kathua District), and the provision of requisite infrastructure at these locations, like winnowing fan, weighing machines, hand stitching machine, tarpaulins etc. has also been provided at these centres. The number of winnowing fan would be increased as per the requirementwherever needed. Director Agriculture, Jammu, and the Deputy Commissioners of Jammu, Samba and Kathua districts, also attended the meeting besides other officers of the Agriculture, CAPD Department and FCI. |
