NC-Cong relation hit choppy waters
10/10/2012 12:14:28 AM
Jammu: The coming together of Soz and Azad faction and reiterating their demand for the implementation of the 73rd Constitutional Amendment, aimed at empowering Panchayats, has one clear signal: NC-Cong ties are up in a choppy waters.
Cong countered the accusations and allegations of Omar Abdullah that two Cong Ministers are against implementing these amendments by holding a meeting at Srinagar which was chaired by all Cong Ministers.
The Cong Ministers had reportedly told the meeting chaired by PCC president Soz that party should reiterate its stand on it and should also clear the perception after Rahul Gandhi's statement that he can't force Government on this issue.
The party leadership said the Cong party should put the things in a right perspective by telling people that Rahul Gandhi by suggesting devolution of power had in fact suggested implanting this Amendment.
It was after this a meeting of office bearers of Valley and today at Jammu similar meeting was held.
The most significant aspect of today's meeting was the presence of Deputy Chief Minister Tara Chand who is considered close confidant of Union Minister and former Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad, who controls a parallel group in the faction ridden Pradesh Congress Committee.
Tara Chand by attending the meeting had send the signal to Omar Abdullah that Cong is united on this issue and even Azad is also putting up his weight behind it.
This has send a message that party is not going to take any more the wild allegations and unilateral style of functioning lightly who had tried to put way the political aspiration of the Cong by citing his close relation with Rahul Gandhi.
The Cong leadership had conveyed this to party high command that such posturing by Omar Abdullah would definitely hurt the sentiments of party cadre who is being given an impression that Cong will always play the role of second fiddle and Omar Abdullah would only call the shot.
It is only after this that party high command asked the State leadership to raise this demand of 73rd Amendment so as to show it as a credible separate entity and also to boost the morale of the party cadre and in the process if it strikes a confrontation mode with Omar Abdullah.
