| 'Leadership Training' program for PYC at Patnitop | | Functionaries from Kashmir to stay away...? | | ET Report
JAMMU, Oct 13: After experiencing tough time for so many days on account of agitational programmes it undertook with zest and zeal in support of empowerment of Panchayats , a brief relaxing break is what J&K Pradesh Youth Congress would observe for nearly a week amid the cold yet solacing environs of famous tourist resort Patnitop. Its parent body IYC has organized training programme for the newly formed PYC committee and other functionaries of the youth wing of Congress during which they would be formally made aware of their role, functions and line of action as well as strategy to followed on important issues.
Even as this training program is meant for the functionaries in general and executive committee members in particular, from all over the state, it may not see full participation of most of the functionaries and some key leaders from Kashmir valley. Sources said though proper invitation letters have gone well in time to all functionaries for attending this training program, a large number of youth holding senior and vital organizational positions have shown reluctance for the same , almost unanimously. They include Constituency presidents and Lok Sabha Committee members, sources added.
Sources said though there is no formal boycott call for the training program from those who have decided to stay away, their decision amounts to boycott only as it is in the backdrop of resentment they nourish that they were not allowed to meet their iconic leader AICC General Secretary Rahul Gandhi during his recent visit to Srinagar, nor was any attempt by IYC leadership to arrangement a separate meeting of leaders with him. While most of the functionaries have this grievance on mind for not attending the training program , there are some who are questioning the practical utility of such sessions, that too organized at a far off hill resort which is normally thronged by people and chosen as choicest venue for such programmes during summers.
The training, it is pertinent to mention is organized in every state as a mandatory programme as and when new body for the Youth Congress gets elected, more importantly to impart and groom the new functionaries with leadership qualities apart from other things. This training is imparted through Jawahar Lal Nehru Leadership Institute, specially established for such programmes by the Youth Congress leadership. How far this training remains successful and serves the purpose of ' practical political training 'for the J&K Youth Congress wing remains to be seen. |
