| Shrine Board to widen road between Baltal and Cave | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Oct 13: It's very good news. The Shri Amarnath Shrine Board, which is headed by State Governor NN Vohra, has agreed to widen the road between Baltal and the Holy Cave Shrine of Baba Amarnath. It may start the work soon. The objective is to make the annual Amarnath Yatra a smooth affair. If all goes well, work would be completed well before the commencement of Yatra in 2013. The Shrine Board has not only agreed to widen the road between Baltal and the Holy Cave, but also agreed to create more facilities for the pilgrims to ensure that no pilgrim meets the fate which over 100 pilgrims met this year. More than 100 pilgrims lost their precious lives this year due to the absence of the required facilities, including healthcare facilities, en-route the Holy Cave Shrine. It was none other than the Shrine Board lawyer who informed the Supreme Court only the other day that the Shrine Board will do two things at the earliest. First, it will widen the road leading up to the Cave Shrine. Second, it will create all the required facilities for pilgrims. Significantly, the lawyer of Jammu and Kashmir Government also informed the Supreme Court that the group of Ministers in Jammu and Kashmir in a meeting on the issue also agreed to create facilities for pilgrims and make the yatra a smooth and safe affair. The Government will provide all possible comforts to pilgrims, the Government layer reportedly told the apex court. Justice BS Chohan and Justice Swatantar Kumar expressed satisfaction over the responses from the Shrine Board and Jammu and Kashmir Government and fixed November 21 as the next date of hearing. It is important to note that it was the Supreme Court which had on its own taken up the issue of death of so many pilgrims and appointed a high-powered committee to look into the circumstances leading to so many deaths and suggest ways and means aimed at making the yatra a smooth affair - intervention that resulted in protests in the Kashmir valley. It is indeed heartening to note that the Shrine Board and the State Government have agreed to work together and do what is needed the most for making the yatra comfortable and safe for pilgrims. |
