2- day event on 'Science for shaping future of India' held

Jammu, Oct 19 : Govt. College for Women, Parade Ground, Jammu organized a two day program on the focal theme 'Science for shaping the future of India', under the auspices of the Jammu Chapter of 'The Indian Science Congress Association (ISCA)', the premier science organization in India, starting on 19th Oct. 2012.
As the Indian Science Congress Association (ISCA) is completing 100 years in 2013, therefore, as part of its Centenary celebrations the Science Club of the college has organized an inter-college poster making competition on 19th Oct. 2012 and an inter-college symposium along with plenary lectures by experts in different scientific fields to be held on 20th Oct. 2012 on the focal theme.
About 33 students from different colleges of Jammu participated in the poster making competition. The Chief Guest on the occasion was Prof. M.K. Jyoti, Head, Dept. of Environmental Sciences, Central University of Jammu. The judges of the competition were Prof. T.S. Batra, Former Principal, Institute of Music and Fine Arts, Jammu and Dr. Angelika Sharma, faculty member from Central University of Jammu.
Malti from GCW, Udhampur, Ms. Sabhiya Kantroo, GCW, Parade Ground and Ms. Bharti Sharma, GDC, Akhnoor bagged the First, Second and Third Prizes respectively while Ms. Navamani, GCW, Gandhi Nagar, Bandana Devi, GDC, Akhnoor and Tarun Sharma, MAM College bagged the consolation prizes.
Dr. Pragya Khanna, the Organizing Secretary of the Program said that the results of the poster making competition shall be announced tomorrow formally along with the results of the Symposium in the valedictory function and the winners shall be awarded accordingly.
Dr. Hemla Aggarwal, Principal of the College appreciated the efforts of the students and said that such programs are meant to build a network of young minds across the nation to spread awareness, responsiveness and understanding of the multiple issues being faced today.
