Kishtwar administration 'hastily' terminated ReT teachers
11/4/2012 12:28:09 AM

Early Times Report

kishtwar, Nov 3: The district administration Kishtwar had acted in a haste in termination of the services of two Rehbar-e-Taleem(ReT) teachers accused of uploading blasphemous page on the social networking site which evoked strong reaction and threatened to communalise the situation.
The district administration acting on prima facie reports suspended the services of Kishori Lal and Bansi Lal, the two of the three accused arrested on charges of disturbing peace and inciting communal violence.
The accused had told the police that they hadn't told the police that the page was uploaded from their fake ID, about which they didn't have knowledge and secondly the village of which they are residents, is quite remote, thus apparently ruling out the possibility of person from there having adequate computer knowledge of uploading the page.
Another possibility ruled by the administration in its haste to control the situation is that the speed of internet service available there is too slow to facilitate such an act.
"The district administration didn't act in a rational manner. It should have first verified the claims of the accused before terminating their services. Getting reports of alleged hacking is a time consuming job and it may also never come but the administration has ruined the career," said a senior police official, wishing not to be named.
The village from where the page is alleged to be uploaded is about 50-km from the Kishtwar town without proper road link. According to media reports, the police had said that even getting details of about hacking and fake ID also depends on the privacy policy of the country-in this case US- where the company has head office.
The media report had also suggested the there are many pending complaints of the Government of India with many companies thus suggesting that this report may never come.
The district administration in its haste has also overlooked the angle of cyber crime perpetrated from across the border-Pakistan-to incite and communalise the situation in India especially in J&K.
The administration should have atleast taking a cue in this regard about a not so late incidents of SMS triggering exodus of North East people from Banglore and also from Mumbai.
The act of district administration has given a leverage to some elements in highly polarized Kishtwar town of threatening the administration and also the threat to incite the violence.
According to reports a threat was issued on Friday that if the administration doesn't punish the culprits then they will start fresh protest, despite the fact that accused have been arrested and their services terminated.
