Early Times Report
JAMMU, Nov 6: No consensus has yet emerged over the election of the new State BJP chief and various aspirants continue to make rounds in Union capital to seek the blessings of the High Command of the Party for the top post in the State.
Maximum all senior leaders of the Party including the former State presidents are putting their ball in the court of Party High Command and some of them have raised objections of the opinion given by some senior leaders in favour of a particular candidate. These leaders have voiced serious concern over the feelers send by some senior leaders that Party has already cleared the name of one of the candidates for the top slot.
Challenging such reports some of the senior party leaders not only termed the report as rubbish but said that they deserve the preference as they have worked on senior positions in the party and their track record in the past has also remained good. ``The High Command has no ground in ignoring us and preferring a person who has been junior to them in rank'', they added.
These leaders have also apprised the High Command of their feelings and resentment and demanded that either the election should be held through secret ballot and not through consensus.
Perturbed over the role of the party functionaries in the State the High Command deputed the J&K BJP Prabhari Jagdish Mukhi to Jammu two days back to assess the situation and hold dialogue with Partymen by asking them to maintain discipline.
Mukhi who held a close door meeting with Core Committee members here on November 4 and later visited the residence of senior vice president of Party CP Ganga to participate in the reception hosted by him in the evening on the eve of marriage ceremony of his son has reportedly asked the Partymen to maintain calm and not to create any controversy on the issue.
The sources said he has also informed the party leaders that no decision will be thrust on them and the new president will be a consensus candidate acceptable to every one. He also ruled out that the High Command has short listed any candidate till date saying that these stories were planted by media.
Mukhi, however, urged the Party cadres to complete the organisation level elections at booth, Mandal and district level so that the elections of new state chief is held on scheduled time and date.
He also advised the senior leaders to take every worker along and not give any feeling that the party is still divided in groups as this will convey a wrong message at a time when state is facing the Municipal Committee elections. Urging the Partymen to put a bold face he asked them not to spare any opportunity in garnering support for BJP during the ensuing Municipal elections.
