| IGNOU exam centres under scanner | | Mass copying in lieu for money | | Asif Iqbal Naik Kishtwar, Dec 23: Skel-etons have started tumbling out of the cupboards following incident of manhandling of the Chief Education officer Kishtwar in Chatroo the previous day. Reports have indicated towards 'money for copying' mafia being run in connivance with centre owners who have allegedly amassed huge wealth. According to reports, each students paid Rs. 3000 to Rs.5000/paper for copying in examination held in nearly one dozen IGNOU centers at Kishtwar, Doda, Ghat, Bhaderwah, Padder, Chatroo, Kilotran, Gandow and at other places. Reports suggest that students appearing in Semester exams have been asked to pay Rs. 2000/3000 per paper, while the students appearing in year based subject course paper paid 5000-6000 per paper as a result of which the IGNOU centre owners have reportedly accumulated moveable and immo-veable property worth corers of rupees. The investigation further revealed that beside few students, large number of government employees particularly ReT teachers are appearing in IGNOU examination. When contacted K K Butt Regional Director IGNOU Jammu said that object of granting permission for opening of IGNOU centers in remote part of the state is to attract more youth towards higher education. He termed the large scale complaint against IGNOU center Chatroo as politically motivated and out of jealousy by those who were denied the registration for opening of IGNOU center. He said that after receiving complaints from different quarters, IGNOU authorities deputed special checking staff from Jammu to verify the facts. He said that as per their reports, the complaint against IGNOU center Chatroo was unfounded. He said that despite the fact that CEO Kishtwar is not authorized for any kind of interference within the examination system. Meanwhile teacher community at Kishtwar and Dadpath condemned manhandling and misbehave with Chief Education Officer Kishtwar at IGNOU center Chatroo. The agitating teachers demanded action against the culprits. Deputy Commissioner Kishtwar, meanwhile ordered an inquiry and appointed ADC Kishtwar as an inquiry officer who has been asked to submit the fact finding report about the incident. It is worthwhile to mention here that there are large scale complaints of mass copying in entire Chenab valley and allegations of promoting copying against many teachers and officials of BOSE have been leveled from time to time. |
