| Counsel seeks time for filing defence statement | | | Early Times Report srinagar, Jan 5: It seems the Minister for Irrigation and Flood Control is worried over proceedings against him in the State Accountability Commission (SAC). His counsel, Shah Mohammad Choudhary sought time saying he wanted to consult the Minister before proceeding further. A full bench of the SAC comprising Justice (retd) YP Nargotra and Justice (retd) Hakim Imtiyaz Hussain granted the prayer and listed the case for hearing on February 4. Taj is expected to file his statement of defence on that day. Taj is facing charges of contempt of SAC. He had stated that the SAC had exonerated him in the forest land grab case. Taking cognizance of the statement, the SAC initiated contempt proceedings against the Minister on December 24 last year. Taj has been in news for all the bad reasons since October last year. The chairman of the Legislative Council, Amrit Malhotra constituted a House Panel to probe the forest land grab allegations. The panel, however, was dissolved and Taj even issued a statement against him.
