| Heavyweight Rana likely to retain but uphill task for Cong MLC..! | | Council polls in Feb-March | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Jan 5: With eight seats in Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Council getting vacated in another one month, Devinder Singh Rana, Political Advisor to Chief Minister is likely to regain the berth, while it seems to be an up-hill task for another legislator to ensure the seat in the Upper House.
Both Devinder Singh Rana and the Congress MLC are among eight Members of the Legislative Council who will be completing their term early next year. Already four seats that were reserved under Panchayat quota have been filled in recent past and two seats for Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) are still lying vacant in absence of elections for the said seats.
If sources in Congress are to be believed, “Politically, there are two simple reasons for the Congress MLC that goes against him. One, he does not enjoy the patronage of Congress stalwart Ghulam Nabi Azad. Another, except few, he could not maintain a good rapport with other senior party leaders that supports Saif-ud-Din Soz camp.” Even though both the factions of Congress have recently put a united face but still things are not that straight within the party as it appears. As Congress party is considered to be a sea of leaders, so several party leaders belonging to Azad as well Soz Camp have started lobbying to secure a berth as MLC with further attempts to catch a seat in Ministry. Sources in the Congress indicated that while leaders in Azad camp are trying to convince their mentor that there are the best and can deliver the goods as per his policy, similar is the situation in Soz camp where party leaders are presenting details of their lifelong services for the party welfare. Leaders of both the factions are lining up to finally hold parleys with party high command at New Delhi separately through Ghulam Nabi Azad and PCC president Saif-ud-Din Soz. However, in NC, which is a regional political outfit, the political moves are different.
According to political observers, NC leader and MLC Devinder Singh Rana will retain the chair in the House of Elders as he is known close confidant of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah. “Though there are strong chances of Devinder Singh Rana to contest next Assembly election from Nagrota Constituency on NC’s mandate but still he-via Omar Abdullah route-would claim for another term so that in case he fails to win, he continues as MLC for another term of six years,” shared political observers further adding that “Devinder Singh Rana is working in Nagrota Constituency ever since he was elevated as MLC by party high command. He is meeting the general public and instructing the officials for the welfare of the masses. But as the past history of Nagrota Constituency is different especially in past two Assembly Polls where the margin of win is very thin, so like a smart politician, Rana would not mind in playing his well calculated moves to ensure his chance of repeat in Upper House with the help of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah.”
“There are several other leaders who are waiting for February month for final verdict of the party high command and have also started lobbying before senior Abdullah. But Devinder Singh Rana seems to be a heavy weight against others in fray,” further expressed political observers. |
