| HRC for effective admn; steps to curb crime against women | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu, Jan 5: Human Rights Council (HRC) J&K, today underlined that it looks for time bound and effective administrative /reformative/awareness measures to be taken by the government especially law enforcing agencies to discourage the crime against the women. Expressing concerns over recent Delhi gangrape which left the entire civil society, administrative and political fraternity shaken all over the country, Raja Mohd Aroof Khan today said the organization expects time bound and effective administrative /reformative /awareness measures to be taken by the govt especially law enforcing agencies to discourage the crime against the women, not only the rape accused, but also crime reported in the dowry crimes and inhuman approach towards the fairer sex. Citing recent example from Srinagar where miscreant threw acid on a woman, he said, "the Council is concerned about the recent acid victim at Srinagar and regrets this issue has not been taken seriously at public or political level across the state." He also demanded acid attack victims should given 10 lakh compensation immediately. Speaking on the occasion Khan also said that council also urges heads of colleges and universities to take immediate steps to curb the menace of ragging and other in-disciplinary incidents. He said there should be atleast one women police officer posted at each police station not less than rank of Sub Inspector to lodge complaints by women victims. "In rape cases, the Police should be given only a week's time to file the challan in court in rape cases so as to prevent delay in justice, he said and added, "besides this there should be special women courts to keeps cases on fast track." He informed that Council will submit this demands to transport Minister on Monday Police in civil dress should patrol in and around schools colleges and in public transports. "We appeal to the various organizations working for welfare of society , thinkers, writers and citizens to submit their demands to frame strict laws to their respective MPs, MLAs and to the Verma Committee setup by government of India so that a well refined system can be placed for curbing this menace down, he added.
