| Adopt safety measures, traffic rules: DIG | | Awareness rally on road safety taken out | | early times report UDHAMPUR, Jan 5: DIG Traffic, Jammu, Shakeel Ahmed Beig, DIG Udhampur - Reasi Range, Jagjit Kumar and Deputy Commissioner Udhampur, P.K Pole jointly flagged off awareness rally on road safety from Mini Stadium Udhampur here on Saturday. The rally after passing through main streets and main Chowks of the town later culminated back at Mini Stadium. Stressing for generating greater awareness regarding road safety among the commuters, Beig called upon the students to come forward to spread the message of road safety in the society. Beig said that people should adopt several safety measure and follow traffic rules while driving which can avoid many accidents and save lot of precious lives. He said that the department was making all out efforts to make roads safe but it is also the responsibility of the drivers to cooperate with the department to ensure safety on roads DDC, Udhampur has appealed to all stake holders to join hands with the Government in its effort to make roads safer and to develop a sustainable road transport system across the state. Line departments must carry out the activity of enforcement and awareness throughout the year with equal zeal as is being done during the traffic weak celebration, the DDC stressed. Speaking on the occasion, the SSP, Udhampur asked for strict measures to minimize the graph of road accidents and stressed to enforce transparency in the issuance of the driving licenses. Collective effort would make a significant impact on the incidence of road accidents and help to mitigate the traffic congestion problem in the town, the SSP said. Assistant Regional Transport Officer, Udhampur, Mr. Pawan Sharma in his welcome address presented the detail of activities carried out during the week long road safety week. Among other, SSP Traffic National Highway, Mr. Varinder Sharma, Deputy Controller Civil Defence, Mr. Bodh Raj, Dy SP Traffic, Mr. Adil Hamid presented on the occasion.
