Protests against shortages of basic amenities, over charging

Rajouri, Jan 5: People held a massive protest today in Kotranka area against shortages of basic amenities especially power as well as overcharging by passengers carriers. Led by local leaders including Sarpanch Khalil-ur-Rehman, Sufi Alam Din, Mohammad Rafiq and Others people blocked the main road connecting Rajouri with Reasi district via Mahore.
Chanting slogans against government authorities especially power department , protestors said that for last more than one week power supply to most villages of their area is cut off after damage to power system due to snowfall but even after one week authorities have failed to restore the power supply. They said that life in these villages has come to a stand still as power supply is off.
Protest was also held against Motor Vehicle Department for negligence and as the people complained that passenger carriers were overcharging the commuters.
After hours of blockade and protests, Tehsildar Kotranka Israr Mir accompained by SHO Budhal rushed to the spot and pacified the protestors thereby making the road functional.
