| Seizure of goods on pretext of under valuation | | | early times report Jammu, Jan 5: A joint delegation of Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Jammu and Kashmir Tra-ders and Manufacturers Fe-deration Srinagar discussed various issues confronting traders and industry which includes seizure of goods on the pretext of under valuation with Deputy Commissioner Commercial Taxes Lakh-anpur and Deputy Commi-ssioner (Hqr) Sowket Aijaz at Lakhanpur on January 3. In a subsequent meeting with the Commissioner Commercial Taxes at Jammu on January 4, they suggested to put an end to the outdated practice of seizure of goods and imposition of penalties at Lakhanpur on the pretext of undervaluation, and instead send the goods alongwith seizure memo to Jammu Head Office of Commercial Taxes Depart-ment for release of goods. "The dispute relating to undervaluation should be decided by a committee comprising of representative of business community and the representatives of Commercial Tax department on the very same day," they demanded. The members also advocated that officials declare certain goods undervalued and if the dealer makes this option to the Department to purchase those goods as that value department should purchase it by adding profit of 10 percent profit to the value of goods. They requested that the Form-65 should be issued to the traders without any restriction in bulk and also that the traders can issue Form-65 to the transport companies even after a week or 15 days detailing the consignments received by them in those days. It was also suggested that in case of goods being dispatched to Srinagar, once the goods are cleared at Lakhanpur the authorities at Lower Munda Check Post should not interfere with the consignment. The members of the delegation also emphasized that business activity should be hassle free and no trader or industrialist should be put to any inconvenience. The Commissioner assur-ed them that the Form-65 will be issued to traders as per their request without any restriction and the other issues relating to under valuation and seizure of goods and other matters will be taken up with the government on priority basis. |
