Sarpanches v/s Patwaris: Blame game continues both sides stage protest
1/6/2013 1:07:36 AM
early times report
Jammu, Jan 5: Ongoing blame game over the alleged manhandling of revenue officials by a local Sarpanch in Bhalwal block of Jammu district today took an ugly turn when hundreds of villagers along with Panches and Sarpanches staged a demonstration against the Patwaris and demanded an in-depth probe into the incident.
Hundreds of the people from Bhalwal block accompanied by Panches and Sarpanches assembled outside the Divisional Commissioner office here and held a strong demonstration against the registration of an FIR against the Sarpanch who, according to them, was innocent and demanded that a thorough probe should be held into the incident.
Meanwhile the Patwaris also remained abstained from their official duties for second consecutive day to give vent to their resentment and demanded arrest of Sarpanch who allegedly manhandled the revenue officials and stopped them from performing their duties. "So far, the administration has failed to take action against the Sarpanch. We will continue our agitation till the arrest of the Sarpanch," they said. "The people protested against the biased approach of the administration which ordered the registration of FIR against me. The allegations levelled by revenue officials hold no ground and are baseless. The revenue officials firstly manhandled me and later managed to get an FIR registered against me," Shree Kerni, Sarpanch Seri Pandita Panchayat halqa said.
Categorically standing to his words and for his innocence, he also added that the administration should hold an in-depth inquiry into the case and if he found guilty, he would be ready to face legal action.
"Let the department order a probe into the incident and it will become crystal clear who manhandled whom," he said.
Meanwhile the protestors also submitted a memorandum to the Divisional Commissioner Jammu and sought his intervention. Thereafter the deputation of protestors also met the Deputy Commissioner Jammu Sanjeev Verma and apprised him about the incident.
