| NC celebrating birthday bash on Govt expenses: Mehbooba | | Leads protest rally against corruption, misgovernance | | early times report
Srinagar, Jan 5: Accusing ruling National Conference of celebrating party's birthday bash on Govt expense Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) President Mehbooba Mufti alleged that crores of rupees from state exchequer have been spent on the said event celebrated in Srinagar on Saturday which was addressed by the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah.
Mehbooba Mufti while addressing her party workers and supporters during an anti Govt demonstration at Lal Chowk Srinagar said the present Govt is celebrating its 5th birthday bash today at huge Govt expense and at the same time the Govt has increased the power tariff four times in the last four years the supply of electricity is almost nil and the Govt has no achievements to show as all the tall claims of the Govt and the promises made to people of J&K have not been fulfilled . "It has failed even to provide basic amenities like water, power ration to the people which is forcing us to hold demonstrations on the streets as the Govt is not at all responding to the kind of difficulties faced by the people". She said the people of the state have now understood the basic cause for darkness where the repeated compromises and sell-outs by the NC. She said that people in rest part of the country light their homes and run industries on the power generated in J&K the people of the state and the people of the state have been left to live miserable life . "Whether it is the sweltering heat of Jammu or the freezing cold of Kashmir and Ladakh there was no respite for the people as between Farooq Abdullah and Omar Abdullah the ten most mega power projects were handed over to NHPC.
While referring to the cooking gas crisis Mehbooba said one cannot see large queues of people to obtain LPG gas in any part of the country but the Omar Abdullah lead Govt has created such a situation that people have to stand in queues to obtain a cooking gas cylinder. She said while the regular supply of the LPG was not available to the consumers and the gas cylinders were channelled only through black markets and huge profits were shared with ruling politicians just to seek a secure political power for the Abdullah family " she said.
Mehbooba said the govt is not keeping itself away from the old tricky politics it has been playing with the people in the matter of recruitment in Govt departments. She said even though PDP led govt had faced a ban on recruitments as a result of an MOU signed by NC govt in 1996 it had ensured that more than a lakh youth were provided jobs as Police constables, Ret's , Anganwari workers etc. " There was not a single complaint of corruption or misuse of authority in these appointments and a transparent system had been established. But NC govt has again started back door entries and their agents are out in the field collecting money from gullible youth as commission for recruitment. The govt has appointed a two time retired Govt official to head the fast track recruitment cell and the said officials are getting very hefty salaries and their track record has also not been good. "More than a lakh Govt jobs will be provided by this cell but this recruitment cell is itself constituted in an unethical manner and how can it do justice with the youth" Mehbooba asked. |
