564 income generating units sanctioned, Annual Action Plan under SGSY approved

UDHAMPUR, Jan 15 : The Annual Action Plan for the current year under Swarnajayanti Gram Swarojgar Yojana (SGSY) and District Rural Development Agency(DRDA) Administration was approved to the tune of Rs. 131.76 Lakh and Rs.155.36 lakh respectively during a Governing Body Meeting of the Agency which met under the Chairmanship of District Development Commissioner, Udhampur, P. K. Pole, here today.
The meeting was attended by Joint Director Planning Udhampur, Rakesh Jamwal, Project Officer, DRDA, Mr. Susheel Kumar, Assistant Commissioner Development, Assistant Commissioner Revenue, IAS Prob. Deepti Uppal, Lead District Manager SBI, District Officers of Line Departments, Block Development Officers, Bankers and NGOs working in DRDA Udhampur.
Stressing the need for greater awareness of SGSY among the people especially those living in remote areas, the DDC instructed the officers of DRDA to organize five awareness camps in each block of the district during the current year so that deserving beneficiaries could be accommodated for their economic upliftment.
He said a compendium of departmental programmer for self employment be supplied to each panchayat through Block Development Officers so that correct information is available with all the PRIs about the schemes and functioning of different departments in the district.
Under Infrastructure Development, different works were reviewed and on spot instructions were issued to the concerned officers for the timeline completion of Animal Care Center, Hartyan, Sheep Care Center, Gharrian and Vocational Training Center at Jakhed. Construction works including construction of Swarozgaries Training Center at Block HQ Ghordi, Multipurpose Swarozgaries Hall at Dubigali and Multipurpose Swarozgaries Hall at Bhatyari being constructed at an estimated cost of Rs. 18.10 Lakh were also approved during the meeting.
Project Officer DRDA outlined the salient features of SGSY scheme for poverty reduction of Below Poverty Line Population by assisting them in starting their income generating units, organizing rural poor into Self Help Groups (SHGs) through a process of social mobilization, their training and capacity building. The Project Officer informed the house that Udhampur District exceeded the allotted SGSY target during the last financial year 2011-12. Elaborating the achievements, he told the house that against target of 479 units, 564 income generating units were sanctioned. So far 271 income generating units have been sanctioned during the current financial year, he added.
The house was also informed that Chenani Block of District Udhampur has been identified as one of the two blocks in Jammu province for launch of NRLM.
