Fletcher, Dhoni could dominate BCCI working committee meeting
1/16/2013 12:41:38 AM

Mumbai, Jan 15: The issue of India's poor run of form and the future of team coach Duncan Fletcher are likely to dominate discussions when the BCCI's working committee meets here on Tuesday. Also expected to feature in the meeting is the name of Indian captain MS Dhoni, under fire after overseeing an embarrassing home Test series defeat to England an 2-1 ODI defeat to Pakistan. It has been reported that Fletcher's contract will not be renewed after it expires in May, and that the BCCI has already begun the search for options to replace the former England coach. Under Fletcher's tutelage, India lost eight consecutive Tests overseas and the recent Tests against England at home 2-1. Dhoni's role as captain and batsman during these defeats are also expected to feature in the BCCI's
At the previous working committee on November 21, 2012 a consensus was not reached as to whether former India captain Mohammad Azharuddin should be welcomed back into the fold of Indian cricket. Last month the Andhra Pradesh High Court lifted the life ban imposed on Azharuddin by the BCCI for his alleged involvement in match-fixing.
"The decision on Azharuddin's future in BCCI has been deferred. The working committee was undecided on whether to appeal against the decision or not. The legal team is still studying the case and it will still take some time to reach a conclusion," a senior BCCI official had said then.
According to PTI, the working committee could also decide on the venue for the 2013 IPL auction on February 3, though it has also been said that the call will be taken by the league's governing council, headed by Rajeev Shukla. Chennai and Kolkata were earlier named as the two options for the auction. The issue of non-participation of Pakistan players may also come up on Tuesday.
