| 20 yrs RI, Rs 1 lakh fine to two brothers in Narco smuggling case | | | early times report kathua, Jan 15 (JNF): Principal Sessions Judge Kathua MK Hanjura today awarded twenty years rigorous imprisonment and fine Rs 1 lakh each to two brothers namely Jaspal Singh and Harpal Singh sons of Resham Singh R/o Dharamkot District Moga who apprehended by the Excise Party at Toll Post Nagri Kathua. According to the police case that on August 19, 2010, the accused persons Jaspal Singh owner and driver of a truck and Harpal Singh helper of the truck, during the physical checking of truck 20 gunny bags of alleged Poppy Straw (bhuki) were found loaded in the said Truck. The weight of the seized contraband was 720 KG and a case u/s 8/15 NDPS Act was registered and after completion of investigation challan was presented in the Court of law. Principal Sessions Judge Kathua observed that the consequences of the Narcotics on the human health are disastrous, these can cause death. The fungus of narcotics has engulfed our country. It has a cancerous growth. It will spread its tentacles all around and a day will come when a major chunk of Indian population particularly the younger ones, will suffer from this vice. All of them will be reduced to a mere vegetable. It will cause incalculable harm to their body and mind. This enhances the harmfulness of the offence. It is an aggravating factor that has to be borne in mind. Court further observed that considerations of undue sympathy in such case will not only lead to mis-carriage of justice but will also undermine the confidence of the public in the efficiency of the criminal justice. With these observations Court awarded 20 years rigorous imprisonment and fine Rs 1 lac to each accused. |
