JAMMU, Jan 15: Fabulous innings played by first class cricketer, Gokul Baru today powered the combined side of Post Graduate (PG) Departments of Law and Sciences to qualify for the quarterfinals of the ongoing inter-college Twenty20 cricket tournament of University of Jammu, here.
In the pre-quarterfinal match, PG side made it an impressive six wickets win over equally talented Government Degree College (GDC) Rajouri, courtesy 70 runs innings played by Gokul Baru. Earlier, batting first, after winning the toss, GDC Rajouri set a challenging target of 150 runs for the loss of three wickets, which, in reply, PG Law and Science chased in 18.5 overs with four wickets in hand.
Nadeem played superb innings of 59-ball 71 runs including two sixes and four boundaries, followed by Tahir Mehmood and Imran Shah, who addd 29 and 26 runs respectively. Ajay Kumar also played well contributing 23 runs. Himanshu Sharma, Gokul Baru and Ajay Kumar shared one wicket each from PG. Later, PG Law and Science attained the goal making 150 runs for the loss of four wickets that too sparing 1.1 overs of their innings. Gokul made 52-ball, 70 runs studded with seven boundaries while Shehroz Malik contributed 19-ball 26 runs. Ajay Kumar added valuable 23 runs. From GDC Rajouri, Imran, Waseem and Sachin took one wicket each. Meanwhile, in a preliminary round match, played in the afternoon session, GDC Samba registered a fine 76 runs win over Bhargava Degree College. Batting first, GDC Samba made 147 runs for seven wickets. Nitish Sharma (29), Amit Sharma (25), Suresh (20) and Rao Virender (18) were main scorers. From Bhargava College, Arjun Singh was most successful bowler with three wickets, followed by Nitin and Rahil, who shared two each. In reply, Bhargava College bowled out for 71 runs in 13.1 overs, courtesy four wickets haul from Nitish Padha. Nitin and Rahil were top scorers with 17 and 10 runs in their respective accounts. From GDC Samba, besides Nitish, Amit Sharma and Suresh also bowled well taking away two wickets each. Today's matches were officiated by the penal of umpires including Amit Gupta, Vijay Dogra, Saleem-ul-Rehman and Sadeeq Malik. Manu Khajuria was scorer.
FIXTURE: PG Law and Science shall take on GDC Poonch in quarterfinals while GDC Samba shall play against GDS Bhaderwah tomorrow.
