KPs observe Holocaust Day
1/19/2013 11:46:56 PM
Early Times Report
Jammu, Jan 19: Joint Forum of Kashmiri Pandits (KP) has observed Holoc-aust day and organized seminar at Press Club, here today.
As per press release, the day is being observed every year by the KP community as the Holocaust day since 1991 in memory of the persecution that was inflicted upon the community in Kashmir valley (1989-90).
In his inaugural address, Ashwani Kumar Chrungoo said that those who forget the facts of history are condemned to live it again and that is why that the leadership of the community has to remain on guard against any hasty and apolitical move regarding the settlement of the community in Kashmir.
"Diatribe against the Pandit community by the separatist forces in Kashmir remains unabated despite complete banishment of the Pandits in Kashmir. It is the secessionist and terrorist forces who were responsible for the genocide and ethnic cleansing of Kashmiri Pandits" he added.
H.L.Chatta speaking in the seminar said that the observance of the 19th January as the Holocaust Day reminds the community of the historical facts regarding its persecution and exodus. "The displacement and resettlement of the community in Kashmir are very serious political issues" Chatta said.
Another speaker, D N Kissu said that the Kashmiri Pandits are the indigenous people of Kashmir and the community would only return to its homeland in Kashmir at a time of its choosing where there will be full and free flow of Indian constitution. Speaker, Virender Raina said it is ironical that the Government of India has 'outsourced' the conduct of its foreign relations to the secessionists, the results of which would be disastrous for the nation.
