| Sham reviews progress of Chenab Water Supply project | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Feb 22: Minister for PHE, Irrigation & Flood Control, Sham Lal Sharma today reviewed the progress of proposed Chenab Water Supply Scheme at a meeting of officers held here today. The Minister issued necessary instructions to the concerned officers to clear all bottlenecks coming in the way of project so that the DPR is forwarded to the ADB for funding. To fast track things, the Minister constituted a committee of officers of concerned departments which will look into the matters relating to the finalization of project. The Committee has been asked to go into the details and clear all hurdles in its clearance in a time bound manner. The Minister was apprised that the project has been proposed to be developed in two phases. The first phase is proposed to be commissioned in 2016 at an estimated cost of Rs. 771 crore which will be funded by the ADB under Jammu and Kashmir Urban Sector Development Investment Programme (JKUSDIP). The scheme envisages lifting and treating of 480 MLD water from River Chenab in two phases. The lifted water will be treated at CPC Muthi (Jammu) and then pumped to all distribution zones of entire Jammu city and adjoining localities. The project has been formulated to meet the ever growing drinking water needs of Jammu city and its adjoining localities. |
