Unrest in valley: Old age couple among 3 injured, curfew re-imposed

Anantnag, Feb 22: Like other parts of the valley normal life crippled once again in southern Kashmir due to curfew and strict prohibitory restrictions on being re-imposed on Friday.
Sporadic clashes broke out in Qimoh Kulgam after Friday congregations in which an old age couple and lady got injured as tear smoke shells hit them after which curfew was re imposed in this area.
On the conclusion of Friday congregations, a group of youth held protest demonstration in Qimoh Kulgam demanding return of mortal remains of Parliament attack convict, Afzal Guru who was hanged in Tihar Jail on 9th of this month. An eyewitness said that demonstration started peacefully however turned ugly after a group youth pelted stones on Police vehicle.
Police in retaliation used tear gas shells to disperse the mob during which at least three old age persons got injured. Sources said that the couple identified as Hajira Banoo and her husband Mohd Maqbool Dar, while crossing the road received injuries after tear gas shell hit them.
The injured duo was shifted to District Hospital Anantnag were their condition is stable, however the another 40 year old lady, identified namely as Rafiqa Banoo w/o Abdul Hamid Dar resident of Meshipora Kulgam is in critical condition at SKIMS , hospital sources said.
Meantime clashes continued till late evening in the area and according to official sources curfew was re imposed in the area for maintaining Law and order situation.
Fearing any violence on Friday, administration here in Anantnag and Kulgam imposed curfew like restrictions in town areas due to which normal life got affected as the traffic remained off from the roads and business activities also remained suspended.
However in the peripheral areas of Anantnag town excluding Bijbehara there was no curfew or restrictions.
