| GMC doctors bring laurels to state | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Feb 22: Doctors from Government Medical College (GMC) Jammu have brought laurels to the state for contributing in national consensus documents on clinical practice guidelines on the management of 'Postmenopausal Osteoporosis' and 'Menopause' which were released in '18th National Conference of Indian Menopause Society held at, Bhubaneswar. It is first time in the history of Jammu and Kashmir that doctors from state were made a part this exercise in preparing documents. Dr Annil Mahajan (Rheumatologist), Dr Sudhaa Sharma (Gynaec-ologist) and Dr Vishal R. Tandon (Consultant), were the part of invited national faculty/ key resource person of the leading core group (nearly 50 doctors/experts in the field of Gynecology, Endo-crinology, Pharma-cology, Rheumatology, Orthopedic surgeons and Physiot-herapy) to compile these prestigious Guidelines. They were also invited as national faculty to present their research experience in the said national conference. The document would be available in the form of book and scholarly document of Indian Menopause Society (IMS) for country wide referral. Prof. of Medicine, Dr Mahajan, while sharing his research experience in the National Conference, enlightened and acquainted the national faculty and delegates that obesity is equally associated with fractures and is no longer considered as protective for osteoporosis. In her address, Associate Prof. Dr Sudhaa Sharma, Gynecologist and Founder President IMS-J and K Chapter, introduced newer treatment guidelines of postmenopausal osteoporosis and advocated stress on calcium and Vit D prophylaxis for all ages as more than 50 per cent of world population is Vit - D deficient. While Dr Joyti Hak Gynecologist and present secretary IMS Jammu Chapter deliberated on emerging role of Vit K2 in osteoporosis. The treatment guidelines shall appear in Pubmed indexed national journals for wider citation. |
